No you didn't see wrongly. Yes we're going to dine in the dark. No we're still in the light because dark here means you can't even see shit at all. Holy cow it's really freakish but exciting at the same time. Boyfriend deliberately brought me here for dinner to make my day extra special. I was in utter shock when I saw the menu price. S$88 per pax. He's too doting already.
We were briefed on what's going to happen at the lounge (1st floor) where the staff explained to us the whole concept. The only place that's lighted was level 1 and we're heading upstairs to have our dinner in the dark. There'll be a host (visually impaired i.e. blind) serving us, bring us to our table and serving us our food. This is insane! She also mentioned that no phones were allowed upstairs, all to put in the locker and the only food we're allowed to take a photo of was the teaser served in the lounge.
How can I not photograph the only food allowed for me to keepsake?
Btw, they're awesome!
This is considered a fine dining experience. It's a three course meal, appetizers-mains-desserts. And for each course, there'll be four different servings for us to taste. In the dark obviously. And we're supposed to discuss with our partners what we've ate. This is really a test on one's palette and at the end of the course, we'll be seated back in the lounge and the staff would let us fill up a form regarding the food we've ate, then reveal the dishes and see if we're correct or not. This is really fun!
Bf is a steak lover and he couldn't recognize Wagyu Sirloin beef strips! *Face palm* I did guess one of the desserts correctly as Panna Cotta but he kept telling me it's Chocolate Mousse. Meh, I have a much better palette than him! This means that he judge his food using his eyes more than his tongue. Hur hur hur.
One of the dish had sea urchin in it and ..... I ate it! I'm so proud of myself. But, I knew I dislike the fatty pork dish which turned out to be pork belly. Oh the tiramisu too. And a very disgusting salad which I couldn't even swallow.
Anyways after we finished the course (before going down the lounge), our host came and shared with us his story. He wasn't born blind, he was caused blind after a surgical removal of his brain tumor. He used to be a air steward and now, he worked in Nox. I really admire his courage and determination, being even more positive than any single one of us. Life moves on, but when it's really you in his shoes, can you move on? I don't know, maybe not for me. I'll be wallowing in self-pity I guess.
All in all, the food wasn't fantastic but because sight was taken away from us, we felt that the food taste extremely good even though it's our basic daily intake. Price is on the steep side, but I think it's worth it to pay for the experience and at the same time, perhaps take it as a form of charity? It's really hard to survive without eyesight and I really am awed he memorised the whole layout of the restaurant!
Thank you once again for being so awesome & the awesome dinner & gifts too!! <3
