Fifty Shades

There's just some books you'd want it to just be a book forever and not a film. Books allow you to imagine the unimaginable, whereas films limit your creativity to whatever the director wants you to see.

This question always linger, 'To read or to watch first?' Is there any difference in what actions you choose? Duh!! Every actions brings about an effect. I always believe that reading gives you a more in-depth understanding of the characters, whereas films only try to tweak in between the storyline to increase viewership. Reading a book takes up to four hours on average (for me), but a film is usually two hours max. For the film to capture the characters' profile fully, it's impossible.

Ahem ahem, in case you're living in dinosaur era, Fifty Shades (written by E.L. James) is known for its sexual contents. It's sort of inspired from Twilight (though I hardly see the link) and the third book, Fifty Shades of Freedom, is the one which left me the deepest positive impression (first book left me emotionally impaired).

When I first started this series, it was really traumatizing because I was rather ignorant. Literally  I felt so crappy as I pushed through the book (contemplating to toss the white flag), but I'm glad I did because it got better (as in less sexual and more romantic). It became my no. 1 favorite love story all-time. If you haven't give it a green light, you're missing out big time. Sure there's lots of sexual scenes but that doesn't mean you have to read it through. You can *pause your imagination*, -skim through-, and viola, you'll go all awwwwwww.

This book is about this guy who was hurt and betrayed all his life. He couldn't put his trust in anyone. Thus the controlling persona, i.e. dominant. One day he met this innocent girl who made his cold-hearted heart beat. He then learnt to trust, to love, and be loved. He broke down his wall bit by bit, and then ............................................................................................. happily ever after.

I almost, almost, ALMOST had to catch this film. Dearest bf insisted he wanted to catch this but he couldn't catch it with his best friend (who's a guy and that'd have been totally gay) and he asked if could watch with his females friends. Of course NOT! I also don't know why the big hoohaa from myself, but it didn't feel right. Yours truly, as a bestest gf, decided to sacrifice myself. But thank goodness he said the reviews were bad (GV rated it two stars) and the torrent was out, so phew.

Why a big no-no to even catch a glimpse of this in the theater?
  1. This is not a sex book! But the trailer already twisted it.
  2. I have my own imagination about the characters. The casts definitely do not cut it.
  3. I was traumatized by the sexual contents of the book, now to watch it on film? No thank you.
  4. How can the film reenact their love in the midst of the sex chaos?
  5. This hype is too manually over-hyped, like someone giving it a hard push in popularity. I can feel it, can't you?

Bad reviews everywhere for the film because this film attracted all the sex-driven people to catch it but they realized it's not up to their standards; the film deviated from the core of the book; the film just couldn't do it.

Maybe the second movie (if there is) will be better? I might catch it then.

I am not criticizing the book. I love love love the book & E.L. James is such a good writer who captured my heart wholeheartedly. It's just the movie.

Book > Films - ALWAYS. In a heartbeat.
