Jun food hunt - Geylang 126

Even months are his pick, and this is my recommendation!
Just realized, it's thrice in a row of my recommendations too! Hehe.
This is worth every penny despite being S$3.50.
Crab meat sauce and mantou

This is perhaps the worse dish from them. We ordered cause we thought the sauce might be a wow factor (good for people who love chilli crab sauce but not wanting to eat the crab), but it turned out that the mantou was way even more disappointing than the sauce. Confirm plus chop this is the most disgusting mantou I've ever had. Come'on, I bet they can produce much better ones.

This is still the best. *slurps*

Perhaps I'm always the one who think so highly of mine and his stomach size. We ordered this much, which was equivalent to the table of four beside us? LOL. Heng we managed to finish it up.

He then took me on a walk about Geylang, which was rather unpleasant. Geylang is one of the most unfamiliar and rather scary places to be in, and I get chills from stares of guys. I feel as though they're giving me a run-down from just one second of eye contact. Am I the only one who feels this way? Well, it was an eye-opener to see gambling dens everywhere. Illegal, he said. I remembered the closest I ever been in Geylang was when I'm in Primary school and my dad drove his taxi about all the Lorong lanes to let us experience safely.

Back to the main point of this post. I've been to Geylang 126 once already, and would definitely revisit over and over again! Honestly I think this dim sum is better than Swee Choon, since I'm not a fan of liu-sha-bao.

I wonder if next month would it be my recommendation or his? I want to break record! *Fingers crossed*

May food hunt - Sunset Grill & Pub @ Jln Kayu

One month delayed in my '12 months of food hunt'. What to do? Work is busy as hell and I need every other little time to find comfort in my current lifestyle. Not sure if I'm liking it this way, but sooner than later, I may just crash? Pray not.

--- Sidetracking ---

The name already suggests sunset, so we gotta burn the noon right? Where to? To the pool! Enjoying the life of a fresh grad, no more exams and no work still. Little pleasures in life.

Fat face us.

--- End of sidetracking ---

Must try buffalo wings!
(Up to level 33 I think, but we got level 3 only)
With wings, beer is a must! Haha, time for some beer *rubs belly* ~
Read the menu wrongly, from burger became toast. 'Looks can be deceiving' did not work for this dish.
DO NOT EVER ORDER!

I'd go back for the wings, but I heard that as the level gets higher, the wings get more sour and spicy. The sour does not complement the wings, so for those who are in solely for the wings (not hall of spicy fame challenge), level 1-3 would be perhaps the better choice to go along with.

As for the mains ......... don't waste your money. For the exorbitant price they charge, you can get the same dish in proper, convenient, good rating restaurants. Pasta was near S$20?!?! The prawns weren't fresh too and the noodles they seriously use chilli padi as the main seasoning. No kiddin'.

As for desserts, we went to get the taohuey right down the road. Old school taohuey with sugar water. Not the laoban kind, if you get what I mean. Yummy! I think the taohuey was more of the highlight than any other dishes of the night. And I missed out taking a shot of it. Oh wells.

Apr food hunt - Paul's @ Ngee Ann City

Apologies for the delay because I forgot. What's new right? April's pick - IT'S MY RECOMMENDATION!!!!! Finally one of mine got picked! Both of us have never been to Paul's cause it looked really atas from outside and the price is pretty up there too. Just as I thought, the price really is up there, but food wise, definitely worth every penny. Yummeh!!

This steak is *thumbs up*!
The seasoning & sauce is as good as the one I had aboard Royal Albatross for Nespresso Event.
(Which I totally forgot, still saved as draft. Whoopsy.)

I think Croquet Madame is the name. SO RIDICULOUSLY GOOD!! Basically it's toast and cheese and ham and egg only, but the toast itself, the texture of it, insane! If you haven't tried it before at any other places, just go to Paul's and order this dish. You'll have no regrets for that meal. For sure.

I ate similar one at Hediard (friend's recommendation), but I swear Paul's one is better. Plus the price is more decent over at Paul's.

Chocolate Tart
Creme Brulee

I forgot to take down the prices ..... (why am I so forgetful nowadays?) but the whole meal was about S$80, which is really up there in price. But, if you don't order desserts, then it should be more pocket-friendly. I believe that Paul's famous for their pastries too. That may be a cheaper alternative meal?

But yes, I'm going back for more of my toast, and definitely gonna try their croissant and see if it beats Hediard's. Nom nom nom. Fat die me. Oh, not forgetting, bf gave a *thumbs up* on this place too!

Mar food hunt - Italian Osteria iO @ Hillv2

My draw, his recommendation. Again! It's three times in a row already! Where's mine? T.T This time, it was supposed to high tea at Fairmont Hotel, but I really wasn't feeling it (and it was out of our budget in this 'game'). Paying S$45+ for just french pastries? Not for me even though I love pastries. How many pastries can one eat before they feel full? Nah, no go no go. I rather pay that price and go for seafood buffets.

A last minute decision to try Dean & Deluca over at Hillv2. Little did we know that it was closed on 29 March for #rememberingLKY. So we ended up at Italian Osteria iO which was located at a corner of Hillv2.

The store display at the front resembles Marche, but in a more orderly fashion. Look at the yummeh pizzas!
Cool cutlery!
Hot chocolate with whipped cream on the side - S$5
A slice of pepperoni pizza - S$9

Yes, a slice of pizza. You did not read wrong. I thought one slice is like the kind that Pezzo sells and the taste better justify the price paid. When this was served, bf and I were shocked. If this serving size is merely one slice, how big is the 'medium' or 'large'?

This.pizza.is.so.darn.good! It has a chewy texture to it despite being thin crust, and not too crispy like eating biscuit. Definitely wins Supply & Demand hands down in terms of texture and the generous serving of cheese. The only downside is the limited variety.

Baked cut potatoes in rosemary salt (which was wedges) - S$9
U.S. Rib Eye - S$32

Bf claimed that the seasoning was real good, though the cook could be better. The salad on the side didn't have any dressing on it which was a major booboo. The 'wedges' was the same as what we ordered above, apart from different salt as seasoning used.

Baked Risotto - S$16

I honestly did not like this dish, at all. Never ever order baked risotto because over-cooked risotto is plain disgusting. The serving size was so crazy that there's not enough sauce to go with the 'rice'. I stopped eating after a few mouths because it's plain torture. However the staff was really nice. She spotted my dish untouched and came over to ask for feedback, then she said it's possible to add more sauce to the dish. Yay! It did taste better with more sauce, but the whole dish was too heavy and I got sick of it after eating a few more mouthful.

The service was really *thumbs up* because the staff actually bothered to take feedback on the food and also try to enhance the dining experience. Well, definitely coming back to try all their other dishes, and of course, their full size pizza! Haha!

A quarter of 2015 is going to be over! Back to books ..........

Feb food hunt - Lola's Cafe @ Simon Road

Geez, already halfway through February! Can you believe that Chinese New Year is coming in less than a week? I am so looking forward to the long break and already not even focusing on working. How can anyone still be in the mood for work?

For this month, it's his turn to draw. We purposely set this food hunt to be on the famous February 14, aka Valentine's Day, aka Friendship Day. Why? Saves us some $ from splurging on expensive meals. This is definitely helping in making our pocket friendly each month! We're both splendidly pleased in making a small step to improve on our expenditure.

It's his pick and his recommendation! WHY NOT MINE? BOOHOO.
Perhaps it's because we went on the weekend and it's also the v'day, this place was crazily packed! We waited for about 45 mins before we got a table. And by the time we finished, the people queuing behind us were still waiting. I think it's because we gobbled up our meal lol.

There was this couple who came and tried to fool their way to get a seat in the cafe? They said they made a reservation, but when the waiter asked them to present the confirmation email (because their name wasn't on the list they had), they couldn't. Then they said they didn't know that the reservation didn't get through. WHAT BULLSHIT PLEASE. However the waiter was pretty smooth and explained that perhaps there's a glitch in the system yada yada, but because currently it's peak hour, he couldn't let up a table for them. QUEUE UP SUCKERS. Fucking ridiculous couple. Can I also mention that the female's makeup was so thick-hooch-y and the guy had a failed dressing? Stupid beng and lian. -.-

How did we guess they were trying to smoke their way in? Normally if you really did book and it's for a special occasion, you'd make a huge fit or have drastic expressions when you realized it's all screwed right? Their faces were calm and they just walked away and ate at coffee shop. Fucking hate this kind of typical Singaporeans. Shame on you big time!

Tip: Make a reservation & do check you've received a confirmation email (common sense right!).

The nacho cheese fries was damn sex I swear! So glad we got the cheese fries instead of truffle. The main was nice as well, especially the pork sausage! Though I could do with better scrambled eggs. This is in the list of 'Must Return Again' cafes. Major *thumbs up*!!

Overall, the experience was fantastic (much better than Jan's) despite queuing with a growling stomach. Thank you bf for the treat and our v'day part two is coming right up!!

Jan food hunt - Istanbul Grill & Cafe @ Bussorah Street

Hola! It's ..... just two days away from the end of January. Already?! Geez, how fast my youth is passing by. Everyday I say to people (my new colleague A) 'What! It's 5 pm already!' I guess he thinks I'm crazy because he's kind of like 'Oh my god why is time passing by so slowly?' The difference.

Anyways we came up with some nonsense to make our year a little more interesting. 12 months, 12 places to go, 6 each to propose, no repeated cuisine, and a random draw per month.

'Little House of Dreams' - Collected this jar after finishing the cake. Yum!
I spot one paper roll that's definitely his! Do you spot it too? (':
Ladies first so I ended up drawing his recommendation!
(Actually we walked by this place last year during my birthday and we both said to go there & try some Arab food.)
I do love the ambiance here, quite peaceful. <:
Chose here to eat because it's the most popular one. I think not for the food though lol.
Mega huge bread loaf with an empty centre.
Beef stick? & Cheese Egg Pizza
Well, it was quite an experience though I'm not a fan of the taste. The pizza was a huge disappointment! I think cheese itself or egg itself taste way better lor, without that disgusting base of flour made bread. -.- Bf was happy with his beef stick. I find all the food .... not good except the rice. So contradicting because I hate rice. Or maybe I'm just too demanding. BUT definitely this over Penang food.

It's relatively cheap? But considering the portion served, it's NOT cheap at all. A good way to scam tourist. Never heading back there no matter how much I love the atmosphere.
